The Climate Aware Clinician (In Person Training)
As summer stirs up concerns about fires and heat waves, clinicians and helping professionals are confronting increasing climate distress, anxiety, and trauma symptoms in our clients. Many of us find our own anxiety spiking as we wonder how to support clients and ourselves through these uncharted times.
Join us at this in-person session where participants will learn about the following: Climate crisis impacts on the mental health of children, youth, and adults ; Assessment and treatment of climate distress ; How collective trauma changes clinical work ; Caring for your own wellbeing in these times of collective distress ; Community Resilience - taking our skills outside the therapy room.
Measurable Learning Objectives:
-Clinicians will identify the 3 areas of mental health impacts of climate change, and be able to provide examples of each area as pertains to the local population of children, youth and parent
-Clinicians will name at least 2 pathways through which climate change intersects with systemic marginalization to increase vulnerability for local children, youth and parents
-Clinicians will name 5 tools they can use to integrate climate mental health treatment into their clinical work
-Clinicians will describe at least 2 ways in which climate change challenges the traditional paradigms of clinical work. They will name at least one strategy for managing this shift while maintaining appropriate boundaries and professional ethics.
-Clinicians will identify at least one opportunity for increasing interdisciplinary collaboration to contribute to community mental health resilience in this changing climate.
